Denmark has a generous parental leave policy. Find out more about the benefits available to parents below.
In order to be eligible for parental leave (maternity/paternity benefits), you must be employed full time for at least 13 weeks prior to your leave.
Parents may take up to 52 weeks of parental leave in total. The mother is entitled to four weeks of maternity leave before her due date and 14 weeks of leave after giving birth. The father is entitled to a minimum of two weeks of paternity leave after the birth. The remaining 32 weeks can be divided as desired between the mother and the father.
If you are a public sector employee, then you are entitled to full pay during your maternity leave (4+14 weeks).
If you are working in the private sector, your entitlements are determined by your employment contract.
