As a foreigner working in Denmark, you can receive child benefits provided that you meet the following criteria:

  • You share custody of the child
  • You can document that you are related to the child
  • You are a citizen of an EU country, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, or Lichtenstein, if your child does not live in Denmark.
If you are an EU/EEA citizen, in order to be eligible for the benefit in full, you must have lived or worked in Denmark or another EU/EEA country for a minimum of two years within the last 10 years.

If you are a non-EU/EEA citizen, then the percentage of child benefits you are entitled to will be calculated on the basis of the time you have spent living and working in Denmark.

Benefits are paid out four times a year.
