The International Garden is a gardening project for international families with children in Odense, where they can learn more about nature and where our food comes from.
The project was initiated by Susan Urbanus, a biologist and science educator. As Susan moved back to the Netherlands, Abigail Martin and Irina Pata, both landscape architects, are organizing the activities from now on. Read an article (in Danish) about International Garden in the Mere Liv i Haven report (page 18).
The main language during the activities will be English, but Abigail also speaks Danish and German and Irina Romanian and a little French and German. At the moment there are three seasonal family days/ events held throughout the year and a group of families meets regularly for Saturday gardening from April to October. This project is not only about sustainable gardening and education, it is also about other creative activities related to nature, social interaction and having a lot of fun.
June 2016 the International Garden project won the first runner up prize in the Urban Nature School Project category in the URBIA Kids Awards ceremony in Copenhagen. The project was also nominated for the Best of Odense - Pindleprisen for the best volunteer project in Odense in November 2016. In the beginning of 2018 the project was nominated for Odenses sustainability prize 2017.
The project is also kindly sponsored by the solidarity and cultural fund of Børne- og Ungdomspædagogernes Landsforbund (BUPL's solidaritets- og kulturfond).
