International garden

The International Garden is a gardening project for children of international families in Odense, where they can learn more about nature and where our food comes from.

The activities are held in the Falen school garden and organized in cooperation with Haver til Maver Odense/Skolehaven Falen, International Community Odense, SDU International Club, Expat Parents Group, Odense International School, and Landsforeningen Praktisk Økologi.

The activities are organized and supervised by Susan Urbanus, a biologist and science educator from the Netherlands. Susan is also a board member of the city gardening association Gro Odense Byhaver and a Mere Liv i Haven garden ambassador for the Danish Praktisk Økologi association. Read an article (in Danish) about International Garden in the Mere Liv i Haven report (page 18).

The main language during the activities will be English, but Susan also speaks Dutch, Danish and German.

In June 2016 the International Garden project won the first runner up prize in the Urban Nature School Project category in the URBIA  Kids Awards ceremony in Copenhagen. The project was also nominated for the Best of Odense - Pindleprisen for the best volunteer project in Odense in November 2016.

The project is also kindly sponsored by the solidarity and cultural fund of Børne- og Ungdomspædagogernes Landsforbund (BUPL's solidaritets- og kulturfond).
